Parker Kincaid is right on target with One Night Stand.
Parker Kincade has been writing since she was a little girl. Her love affair with romance novels began as a teen and she dreamed of writing her own. She is thrilled to be living her dream.
Parker lives in the South with her husband, children and beloved boxer sidekick. She loves reading, playing golf, spending time with her family and friends, ice cream from the ice cream truck, taking her dog to the park and watching old musicals.
Amanda Martin has the worst taste in men. After being cheated on not once, but twice, she’s lost all faith in men…and in herself. Determined to regain her confidence, Amanda decides to have a one-night stand. No relationship, no promises, no threat of being hurt again…just sex. What she doesn’t anticipate is meeting a handsome-as-sin stranger who will give her pleasure unlike any she’s ever known.
Joe Sterling has spent his life avoiding relationships, his former job as a military sniper not allowing for such commitments. Now he’s come home to Texas, to let go of the past and to prove he is more than the killer he’s been trained to be. When Amanda’s life is threatened, Joe’s killer instinct is tested while Amanda struggles to protect her heart. Will they succumb to their overwhelming desire for each other, or lose it all by letting the past dictate their future?
Poor Amanda! She sounds like a woman determined to take her power back. How did you come up with this character?
I have a very detailed character profiling process. It’s important that I know as much as possible about my characters – even the details the readers will never find out. I start with the basics – personality traits that are important to the story – and the character builds from there.
Joe’s character is interesting. What made you decide to make him a sniper?
The fact that Joe is a sniper tells us something very important about his life and helps the reader understand where he comes from. He’s a ghost. He’s lived the majority of his life alone. He’s killed people. Instead of being hard and unemotional, Joe craves connection. With his brother…with Amanda. To me, that wouldn’t be as powerful if he was a stockbroker (for example).
A sniper relies on keen eyesight and reflexes. If Joe lost his sight, how would he cope? Would he be able to cope? How would Amanda help him through that?
Joe is resilient. If he lost his sight, he’d fall back on his training, his other senses to get him through. Amanda would be kind and patient, allowing him to use her eyes until he found his way. I see them working very much as a unit. No matter the hardship, they are a team.
Let’s lighten the mood. I’ve invited Joe and Amanda to a karaoke night. What song would Joe choose? What about Amanda? Who would get drunk?
LOL! Joe and Amanda wanted to answer this question for you:
JOE: There is no way in hell I’m singing karaoke.
AMANDA: Party pooper. I’d start with some Gretchen Wilson, maybe Redneck Woman. I like to get a little raunchy with my karaoke.
JOE: You’d get raunchy?
AMANDA: Oh baby, you have no idea.
PARKER: Do you even like country music?
AMANDA: Um, hello? It’s karaoke. Country music is a must for karaoke. Give me a shot or two of cinnamon whiskey and it’s on!
JOE: Obviously, Amanda will be the one who drinks too much. I’m not much for over-indulging. *Looks at Amanda* For alcohol that is. Maybe we should get one of those home karaoke machines…
Joe sounds like the type of guy that you don’t want to have as an enemy. What would I have to do to get on his good side? What would I have to do to get on his very good side?
Joe is a pretty easygoing guy now-a-days. As long as you didn’t threaten anyone he loved, he’d be nice and friendly. Probably even buy you a beer or a shot if you stopped in at the bar. His very good side belongs to Amanda and – I don’t know about you – but I wouldn’t want to mess with her. She’s got a killer right hook!
I have a good outside block and quick reflexes, hahaha. Okay, now that I’m focused, let’s talk about Joe a little more. A sniper is a very unique profession. Did you have to do a lot of research to write Joe’s character?
I did quite a lot of research, yes. I can just imagine what the Internet Gods must think of my Google searches!
On the topic of heroes, have you written a character you’d consider an ideal man?
LOL! I love these questions! I would say all the heroes I write are ideal men in their own right, but I’m a bit partial to Joe, because he was my first. And he’s gorgeous. J The way I look at it, if I don’t love my heroes, my readers probably won’t love them either.
Kincaid is a strong Irish name. Do you enjoy weaving a bit of Irish flair into your tales?
Thank you so much, Nulli. I’m very proud of my heritage. Weaving it into a story is something I’ve thought about and really want to do at some point. So far, I haven’t done too much of it. Amanda’s best friend, Samantha, is Irish. Does that count? LOL!
One Night Stand features the Martin Family. Are there more books in store with these characters?
Yes! This is a projected four book series, with the potential for additional books/short stories. Caleb’s story is next…so stay tuned!
Is there anything else you’d like readers to know?
